The Health Department of Kashmir on Saturday arrested an alleged fake doctor and his clinic was sealed in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Chief Medical Officer of Anantnag, Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Zagoo reads a circular that says, “It has come to the notice of the undersigned that one alleged fake doctor is practicing in Anantnag. Taking cognizance of the issue, a team of officers/officials was deputed from the office, which sealed the clinic immediately, and an investigation into this regard is going on.
According to the sources, the fake doctor named Dr. Gulzar has been treating patients in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town for several years. His identity came to light by a senior journalist’s sting operation. The Kashmiri journalist Sajad Muniwari uncovered that the doctor's prescription letters read that Dr. Gulzar holds an MBBS and MD degree from the PGI (PostGraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research), Chandigarh and also asserted that the doctor was a senior gastroenterologist who turned out to be a fake doctor.
Based on journalist Sajad's report, during the sting operation, the doctor admitted to having tampered with his degrees. The journalist also expressed that the doctor tried to bribe him saying that he comes from Srinagar and will not see patients anywhere in Anantnag now. The journalist captured the entire situation on his camera.
Dr. Bari Naik, a former Professor, was terminated by the Jammu Kashmir Admin over anti-national charges, talked to the Kashmiriyat and enunciated that the fake doctor was practicing at private clinics in three districts, Hawal and Nowshera in Ganderbal, Mehman Mohallah in Anantnag, and at two places in Srinagar. He also said that he visited the clinic as a patient and the registration number that the fake doctor provided belonged to someone else. He also checked the degrees of the doctor and they were found to be bogus. Dr. Bari Naik spoke up that, several media outlets in Kashmir interviewed the fake doctor and said it was unfortunate that Greater Kashmir-like media outlets have run his advertisements.
The Chief Medical Officer of Anantnag circular also stated that “as such, to make the system transparent, all the private hospitals/ clinics of Anantnag district are hereby directed to furnish the information of all the doctors practicing in their respective hospitals/clinics as per the devised performs within three days positively”.
