The police have registered a case after a woman in Agra, Uttar Pradesh accused her husband and in-laws of physical assault, torture, and harassment. She also added that she was forced to have physical relations with her mother-in-law.
The FIR stated that the woman married her husband Alok Upadhyay in Ghazipur district in 2022. She was abused soon after their marriage.
The Agra woman alleges that her mother-in-law forced her to have sex with her. When she refused, the mother-in-law attacked her with a blade, causing five cuts on her arm that had to be stitched.
The cops also said that the report further alleges the woman's sister-in-law confiscated all her clothes, forcing her to wear the same garments for a month and being confined to a room. She was also demanded dowry by the in-laws and constantly abused physically.
When the woman gave birth to a son in 2023, the abuse reportedly escalated. Her husband allegedly questioned the legitimacy of the son and physically assaulted her. After the beating, she was thrown out of the house. She was allowed back into the house after the neighbors intervened in this matter.
A few days later, the woman's father visited her and she moved back to her maternal home in Agra.
Earlier this month, the woman's in-laws contacted the woman and her family, seeking a compromise, and requested her to return. When the woman along with her father returned to her husband's house for discussions, the meeting ended in a brawl, prompting them to leave again. This incident is reported to have occurred on June 7th.
The police have registered a case based on the woman's complaint and are currently investigating the allegations.
