A couple in Agra has filed for divorce and registered harassment complaints against each other over a dispute regarding the choice of saree.
Deepak, the husband, a resident of Agra, had married about eight months ago to a woman from Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district. The couple got married months ago but had frequent clashes over the husband’s preference for the type of saree his wife should wear. Deepak had bought several sarees for his wife. He said he wanted his wife to wear the sarees he liked, as he thought they suited her better. However, the wife wanted to wear sarees of her own choice. This disagreement and choice of saree resulted in many arguments between them.
The couple tried to sort out their differences through counseling, but it couldn’t save the sinking ship. The couple eventually decided to part ways and approached the police for legal action. The case is expected to be heard in the civil court this month. The families of the couple have been making efforts to make them harmonious, but they have failed to do so as the saree issue has become a deal-breaker for them.
In a separate incident, a woman in Agra filed a police complaint and demanded a divorce from her husband because he did not buy her momos daily. The couple, who married recently, often argued over the wife's favorite snack. The husband, who works in a shoe factory, said that he loved his wife and tried to buy her momos whenever possible. He also mentioned financial issues as a reason for not being able to afford momos daily.
