AIIMS Delhi Ph.D. scholar was arrested and brought to Ghaziabad on Tuesday after a 25-year-old woman, who is his fiancée, accused him of raping and blackmailing her.
The woman also reported in her police complaint that the doctor is from Mahedergarh in Haryana. She became pregnant following months of abuse. He had tricked her into taking abortion pills.
According to the complaint, the doctor and the woman's family met in March to discuss matrimony, and the ring ceremony was held on April 2, 2023. The woman's family allegedly gave a dowry of Rs. 5 lakh during the ring ceremony. The doctor's family additionally demanded another Rs 25 lakh with Scorpio before the marriage, the complainant claimed.
Subsequently, the marriage was put on hold, with the doctor saying that in June he had to write his PhD papers and did not want to get married before December, according to the complainant.
The woman claimed that she conveyed to him that her parents were not at home, following which the doctor and his brother-in-law came to visit her. The doctor and his brother-in-law offered her a drink spiked with intoxicants. She claimed she became unconscious after consuming the drink and woke up to find herself disrobed on a bed beside the doctor.
She also reported in the complaint that the doctor's brother-in-law had filmed them. After that, he also sexually abused her.
The doctor blackmailed her by using the filmed videos and photos. For the next few months, he sexually abused the woman on multiple occasions. She also visited the AIIMS hostel, as he called her several times.
She got pregnant in October, and then the doctor opted for an abortion. The complainant also claimed that when she was not feeling well, he gave her an abortion pill, saying that it was a medicine for fever.
ACP Kavi Nagar Abhishek Srivastava said the doctor has been arrested under sections 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without a woman's consent), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offense), 377 (unnatural offenses), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to pro-peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The FIR was filed against 11 others, which include his mother, sister, and brother-in-law.
The police conducted a medical examination that confirmed the abortion.
