A renowned doctor from Mahesh Hospital, Udupi, Karnataka is believed to have tweeted something that sparked a great deal of controversy in the area.
On Saturday, July 13, laparoscopic and laser surgeon Dr. Keerthan Upadhya allegedly responded to a tweet stating "Muslim Community" in response to a question that asked, "If you could delete one thing from the planet today - What would it be?"
Rapidly after the doctor's disrespectful remark against Islam, the tweet received a lot of attention and outrage from online users. Several people expressed shock and disappointment that a medical expert could make such a statement. Social media users shared screenshots of the tweet extensively, which increased the negative response.
The fact-checking group Alt News's co-founder, Mohammed Zubair, noted that Dr. Upadhya had locked his Twitter profile and removed the disputed message, making it unable to access his account or tweets.
Dr. Upadhya stated in a later post that someone had gotten illegal access to his account and that the offending tweet was sent by them. He claimed that his account had been hacked.
Users also uploaded screenshots of Dr. Upadhya's previous derogatory tweets on Islam from the same handle, claiming that the doctor has made similar remarks in the past.
