The National Basketball Association (NBA) is hands down one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The NBA 2022-23 season is certainly heating up.
However, amidst the electrifying season, NBA fans were shocked by a terrifying visual. Notable commentator Bob Rathbun suffered a scary medical emergency live on air on December 5.
The Atlanta Hawks took on the Oklahoma City Thunder. While commentating with co-commentator Dominique Wilkins, Rathbun passed out on his chair. The camera captured the scary scene before it got cut.
It appeared that he had a seizure before fainting. However, it has since been confirmed that it was instead a case of dehydration. Rathbun, 68, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, he is now in stable condition.
An update on the 68-year-old's health was provided in a statement from the broadcaster Bally Sports Southeast. The statement said: "Play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun briefly lost consciousness on the court before tonight's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The on-site emergency medical staff promptly addressed Rathbun's dehydration. He is moving toward Emory Midtown (hospital) for more assessment and is steady and responsive".
