A serious case of medical negligence has surfaced from a government hospital in West Bengal. A newborn was declared dead and even given the death certificate by the doctors of the Ghatal Super Specialty Hospital of West Medinipur district on April 8.
However, things took a turn when it was found that the newborn was alive when the family members were about to perform his last rites. The newborn was also packed before being handed over to his family. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, where the doctors restarted the treatment. However, unfortunately, the child could not survive and passed away on April 9.
The case is extremely serious as the newborn's family has rightfully accused the doctors of issuing a death certificate even when the child was alive. He also claimed the newborn lost valuable time as he was packed for several hours.
The family has demanded exemplary punishment for the doctors. They also wish to draw the attention of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee into this matter.
The District Magistrate and some officials met the Hospital Superintendent after the incident. A three-member committee will be formed, and action will be taken against the doctors found to be negligent in the case.
