Depression has always been associated with doctors in some or the other form. Mostly the contributing factors are lack of pay, burden, burnout, harassment from other doctors, and many more. However, we often forget about the societal expectations from a doctor, which more often than not, they fail to fulfill.
A case of a doctor's suicide has surfaced from the Jamui district of Bihar. The 30-year-old doctor committed suicide just ten days after her family fixed her marriage. She was posted at an additional primary health center in the district of Banka.
The brother of the doctor told the police that the doctor returned from her duty on May 8 and went into her room to rest. However, he saw her hanging when he entered the room. She was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor pronounced her dead.
The doctor was reportedly upset about the fact that her family had fixed her marriage. Even though the exact reason is unknown, 30 is usually considered an age when Indians are expected to marry.
However, the brother of the doctor also said that the doctor was not paid for eight months. He believes that her suicide is linked. An investigation has been launched to find out the actual reason.
