The cases of food poisoning are increasing in the coastal region with more than five cases being reported in a day.
Numerous food poisoning cases are reported in both government and private hospitals in the coastal region. The health specialists presumed that the rising temperatures and changes in the water quality are probable reasons for this trend. According to the hospital sources, irrespective of age children, students, and the elderly are affected by food poisoning.
Food and Nutrition experts emphasize the role of contaminated water as a significant characteristic in food poisoning cases. With the temperatures increasing, it is necessary to drink more water, but confirming the water purity is important.
Along with water purity, other characteristics that are responsible for food poisoning include bacterial and viral contamination in food, food impurities, consumption of expired or undercooked food, eating of spoiled vegetables and fruits, eating of highly processed foods, and extended storage of foods in hotels and restaurants. To reduce the risk associated with food poisoning, experts suggested consuming home-cooked foods, and fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly before consuming.
The symptoms of food poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, and stomach pain, and sometimes it also occurs by skin rashes and itching. In such cases, immediate medical attention is vital.
Some home remedies can relieve the symptoms of food poisoning but consulting a doctor is imperative to avert any adverse effects of food poisoning. Consuming water with lime, eating raw garlic cloves, or using tulsi leaves to detoxify the body are suggested remedies. Consuming cumin powder or chewing cumin seed may aid in relieving food poisoning symptoms and honey has anti-fungal properties that may lessen the severity of food poisoning symptoms.
