Mahi Singh, 24, and Rohit Kumar, 32, from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from a train in Shahjahanpur for allegedly kidnapping an infant from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The mother was attending to her husband's kidney treatment when a woman struck up a conversation, gained her trust, and fled with the child in an auto-rickshaw accompanied by a man.
The kidnapping occurred on November 15. Through effective coordination, the Delhi Police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully rescued the victim and apprehended the suspects.
On Friday, investigators revealed details of a brazen infant abduction case. At 3 p.m., the police control room received a distress call reporting a woman fleeing with an infant.
Upon investigation, a 22-year-old mother informed police that she had left her baby with her 60-year-old mother while her husband underwent treatment at the hospital. The mother explained that an unidentified woman gained her mother's trust, took the infant, and escaped.
A brazen kidnapping case unfolded at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where a 45-day-old infant was abducted from its grandmother's care. The kidnapper, a woman wearing a salwar suit, gained the grandmother's trust and fled with the baby in an auto-rickshaw, accompanied by a man.
The police swiftly sprang into action, scanning CCTV footage from inside and outside the hospital, which led them to the auto-rickshaw driver. The driver revealed that the couple initially requested to be dropped off at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station but later changed their destination to Anand Vihar railway station.
Further investigation uncovered CCTV footage of the suspects boarding the Sadbhavna Express at Anand Vihar, bound for Raxaul in Bihar. Authorities quickly alerted the Government Railway Police, Railway Police Force, the train's Ticket Examiner, and local police, who stopped the train at Shahjahanpur.
A thorough search of the train's coaches ensued, and the couple was apprehended at 11 pm the same day. Interrogation revealed that Mahi Singh (24) and Rohit Kumar (32), both from Uttar Pradesh, had been scouring temples, hospitals, and public places for an infant to kidnap.
Although the motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear, police suspect a larger baby-selling gang may be involved. The investigation, supervised by ACP Ranbir Singh, led to the rescue of the infant, who was reunited with the family.
