Dr. Zhao Ming, a neurosurgeon based in Beijing, went out for dinner in November 2022 when he noticed one of the diner's appearances that seemed abnormal.

As per various media sources, Dr. Ming reportedly noticed her thick lips and wide nose. He noted that she had a prominent forehead and her fingers were thick and long.

According to Dr. Ming, the women showed typical symptoms of growth hormone pituitary adenoma.

He wondered if he should approach her in the first place, as he believed it would be insulting on the patient’s side, but as a doctor, it was his duty to help the woman, who was unaware of her symptoms.

Her tumor was cancerous. Despite the potential that they would misinterpret me, I had to tell her because of my doctor's instinct," he stated.

"I asked her about her recent illness and if she had diabetes. She disclosed having diabetes. I suggested that she possibly had a brain tumor.

The woman, who was not identified in the paper, claimed that she initially believed Zhao to be a fortune teller when he approached her to inquire about her diabetes.

She eventually felt comforted and spoke to him about her health. “I’m a neurosurgeon, sister. If you trust me, I'll give you my phone number. For any medical examination or additional care, get in touch with me," Zhao advised the woman.

She said that Zhao's diagnosis had surprised her because no other medical professional had paid attention to her condition.

A few days later, when she went for a checkup, the findings revealed that she had a tumor and she phoned Zhao and asked him to do the required operation. She had a week of treatment before being discharged following a complete recovery. (Representational Image: Wikimedia Commons)

If he hadn't recognized me, I would not have known I had a brain tumor. He has restored my life," the woman stated.

Last year, local media briefly covered the woman's tale, but the Zhejiang province government pushed it for China's Doctors Day on August 19, and the story went viral.

Mainland internet users lauded Dr. Zhao for his compassionate intervention in a stranger's health concerns.

One reader said, "I am amazed that there are still some kind-hearted physicians.

"This shows the ancient standard that a doctor should have mercy and a loving heart," said another individual. I wish there were more physicians like this.
