Authorities in Thane, Maharashtra, are investigating a complaint lodged by the parents of a nine-year-old boy from Shahapur. They claim that instead of operating on their son's damaged leg, medical professionals at a government hospital operated on their son's private area by accident.

According to the parents, their son sustained a leg injury while playing last month. He was admitted to Shahapur's sub-district hospital on June 15 for treatment. However, they claim that instead of addressing the leg injury, doctors performed a circumcision surgery on the boy's private area. Upon realizing the error, a subsequent surgery was performed on the injured leg.

The incident prompted the parents to file a formal complaint with the Shahapur police. Although no legal case has been filed yet, authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.

Dr. Kailas Pawar, the District Civil Surgeon, confirmed that health authorities will conduct an inquiry into the allegations. Meanwhile, Gajendra Pawar, a medical officer at the hospital, explained that apart from the leg injury, the boy also had a medical condition known as phimosis, which necessitated two separate surgeries.

While addressing concerns about communication with the parents regarding the surgeries, Dr. Pawar mentioned that there might have been a lapse in informing them directly.

The hospital defended its actions, stating that the surgeries were medically justified, but the parents remain unconvinced by this explanation.

On the same day, two other patients of similar age reportedly underwent surgeries at the hospital, although details about these cases were not disclosed.

The incident has sparked public concern and scrutiny over medical practices at the government-run hospital. Authorities are committed to investigating the matter thoroughly to ascertain the facts surrounding the surgeries performed on the young boy.

Police officials are actively pursuing the investigation to gather all relevant information and statements from involved parties. The hospital administration has assured cooperation with the authorities in the ongoing inquiry.
