An uncommon incidence occurred in Vietnam when a 32-year-old Indian national put a live eel into his anus that measured 65 cm in length and 10 cm in circumference.
The man almost died as a result of the difficulties that followed his actions, but The Straits Times said that doctors at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi were able to save his life.
On July 27, the man reported having severe stomach ache. The eel was discovered inside his abdominal cavity by doctors after they performed procedures such as an X-ray and an ultrasound scan and reviewed his medical history.
Following the examination, the eel was removed by colonoscopy, which was carried out by the endoscopy team and anesthesiologists. A colonoscopy is a test used to check for changes in the rectum and large intestine.
The doctors had to undertake an emergency surgery since they were unable to remove the eel through the anus. According to the doctor, the eel entered the abdominal cavity by biting through the colon and rectum.
Additionally, doctors discovered a lemon inside, which they eliminated through the anus. The next treatment they did was a colostomy, which creates an opening in the colon, also known as the large intestine.
Doctors were able to extract the lemon and the eel. After being checked to make sure his body had no more foreign objects, he was sutured.
“Eels can survive in anaerobic conditions for a long time and have the ability to bite through the gastrointestinal tract,” Huy warned. “Therefore, people should never insert live animals through the anus to seek intense sensations due to the unforeseeable consequences.”
It's quite strange to note that this is not even the first time an eel has been taken out of a person in Vietnam this year. An eel that was taken from a 43-year-old man's abdomen in March is thought to have slid up his anus.
