The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Dharmasala, in Odisha’s Jajpur district, has taken strict action against a primary school headmaster who attended school in an intoxicated state. The headmaster, who works at a government primary school in Anjira panchayat, Dharmasala block, was served a show cause notice after complaints were raised by the school management committee and concerned guardians.

Parents and committee members reported that the headmaster has been regularly coming to the school under the influence of alcohol, which led them to demand immediate action. They insisted that the teacher should be transferred to another school due to his inappropriate behavior. Supporting their claims, the complainants provided a video of the headmaster in a drunken state. The video, which shows the teacher lying on the road near the school, has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the issue.

Following the complaints, Dharmasala BEO Abhijit Barik issued a formal show cause notice to the teacher, asking for an explanation within three days. Depending on the teacher’s response, further disciplinary actions will be taken. Barik confirmed the BEO’s intention to pursue appropriate measures based on the headmaster’s reply.

This is not the first such incident in the district of Jajpur, as similar cases have been reported previously. Last year, three teachers were found attending their schools while under the influence of alcohol, raising concerns about the professional conduct of some educators in the region.

They demanded immediate transfer of the teacher to some other school as he is often seen coming to school in an inebriated condition,

The situation underscores the growing issue of misconduct by teachers, which not only tarnishes the reputation of educational institutions but also jeopardizes the future of the students they are supposed to guide. Parents and community members have expressed frustration with these recurring incidents, calling for stricter monitoring and regulations to ensure that teachers fulfill their responsibilities with integrity.

The school managing committee, guardians, and other community members are pushing for more stringent actions to prevent such behavior from continuing unchecked. Local authorities are being urged to introduce preventive measures, such as surprise inspections and more robust disciplinary frameworks, to address the issue of intoxicated teachers. The well-being of the students remains the top priority, and guardians insist that swift, decisive action is essential in this regard.
