On September 17, 2023, Nattuji Akaduji Wanjari, a 58-year-old male resident of Nandanvan Layout, Nagpur, was admitted to SevenStar Hospital in Jagnade Square, Nagpur, with complaints of arm pain, vomiting, and profuse sweating.

He was a telegram technician at BSNL. He was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke, and a team of doctors treated him, but his condition deteriorated, and he was put on ventilator support. Soon, doctors declared him brain dead.

Dr. Sandeep Nagmote of SevenStar Hospital educated the patient's relatives about organ donation, emphasizing that organ donations can save the lives of patients. The patient's daughter is a paramedical student, and his son is a Pharma graduate. Due to their medical background, they readily agreed to the organ donation.

The patient was shifted to the nearby transplant center, New Era Hospital, where his lungs, liver, and kidneys were donated. They also wanted to donate his heart, but it wasn't possible due to certain medical reasons.

Lungs have an ischemic time of four hours, which means they should be transplanted within four hours after retrieval. For this purpose, a special green corridor was created from New Era Hospital to the airport. The lungs were transported to Global Hospitals in Mumbai and were transplanted into a 38-year-old female on an urgent basis. One kidney was transplanted at New Era Hospital, while the other was sent to Wockhardt Hospital in Nagpur. The liver was transported to a patient from Chhattisgarh at New Era Hospital.

This was the 57th organ donation in Nagpur and the first lung retrieval in Nagpur City. Through this donation, the lives of four individuals were saved.
