In a shocking incident, a 39-year-old doctor from Berlin who worked as a palliative care nurse allegedly killed four elderly patients on different occasions and set their houses on fire. The fire brigade rushed to the site and tried to doze off the fire. In response to this incident, the German police arrested the doctor on Tuesday.
According to an article, the police said that "the accused is suspected of killing four female patients in the care of the nursing service between June 11 and July 24 in an as yet unknown manner and then setting fire to their homes."
The first incident took place on June 8, when the doctor allegedly killed a 76-year-old woman and set the victim’s apartment in Neukolln on fire, but the fire extinguished itself. Police said that on realizing that the fire had been extinguished, the doctor informed the victim’s relatives that he was standing in front of the apartment and nobody was answering the doorbell.
In another incident on June 11th, the 87-year-old woman was resuscitated initially as the firefighters reached the scene on time, but the victim later died in the hospital. Then in the coming weeks on July 15th and 24th, the doctor targeted two other women aged 72 and 94 years and allegedly killed them. The accused allegedly killed the victims who were part of the nursing service care and tried to cover it up by setting their homes on fire.
The accused doctor is currently in custody, and due to German privacy rules, his name has not been revealed. He is currently charged with manslaughter and attempted arson. The investigators are still trying to figure out the motive behind this act.
