Russia invaded Ukraine as an escalation of the Russia-Ukranian War in February 2022. More than 18000 students had to come back to India. Medical students are now looking to complete their medical degrees in their own country.
The students will now be given a single opportunity to clear the MBBS final exams - Part I and Part II (theory and practicals). They won't need to enroll in any existing medical college as well.
The students will have to complete two years of their mandatory internship as decided by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The first year of the internship will be unpaid, and the second year will be paid.
It is a welcome decision for Indian medical students affected by the war. The decision was made by a committee specifically formed to look into this matter.
However, the committee stressed the fact that this is a strictly one-time option for the present issues of war-hit medical students. This decision won't be a basis for decisions in the future.
