A violent crime spree shook Colorado Springs on September 18, 2024, with Dr. Rupesh Jain identified as the suspect. The spree included multiple shootings and damage to several businesses.
Initial Shooting:
The incident began at 6:15 a.m. when a resident at Volta at Voyager apartment complex reported a gunshot injury to 911. The resident claimed to have been shot while asleep. Officers arrived to find several gunshot shells coming from an adjacent apartment, which was later discovered to be vacant.
KeyBank Attacks:
Dr. Jain allegedly drove to KeyBank on Spectrum Loop and fired his gun, causing significant damage. Bullets broke at least five windows. Authorities received a second complaint regarding the shooting at another KeyBank branch between Woodmen and Lexington. Authorities suspect the same individual is responsible for both attacks.
Village Inn Shooting:
After firing rounds at KeyBank, Dr. Jain allegedly shot at Village Inn near Woodmen and Powers and attempted to enter the building.
Arrest and Investigation:
A shelter-in-place order was issued for the apartment complex's occupants during the crime spree. Dr. Jain was arrested at his residence around 7:15 a.m., approximately an hour after the initial shooting. The shelter-in-place order was lifted by 8 a.m.
Charges and Victim:
Dr. Jain, 53, faces five felony charges. The injured resident is expected to survive, with no additional injuries reported.

Dr. Rupesh Jain is a plastic surgeon with over 28 years of experience. He graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 1995 and is affiliated with UC Health Memorial Hospital Central.
