Three out of seven women who underwent different surgical procedures on the same day at Pavagada Taluka government hospital have passed away. There are accusations that three women who underwent sterilization, uterus surgery, and a caesarean section, respectively, died within five days.
Following this, on Monday, the family members of the deceased Anjali held a protest in Pavagad, demanding justice. Taking cognizance, the District Health and Family Welfare Department issued an order dismissing three people, including a doctor, from duty. Seven people underwent various surgeries, including childbirth, on February 22.
Anita (40), who was from Veerlagondi village, underwent sterilization treatment and died on Friday night while taking treatment.
Anjali (24), who was from Rajwanti, underwent a cesarean section. After giving birth to her second child, her condition became serious while undergoing treatment. Later on, she was referred to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. Unfortunately, she died in the hospital on February 24 as the treatment failed.
Uterus surgery was performed on Narasamma (40) of Byadanoor village. After the surgery, her condition also turned serious, and she was admitted to Vani Vilasa Hospital in Bengaluru. Later, she was admitted to Victoria Hospital for further treatment. However, on February 25, she died in the hospital without responding to treatment.
Anjali's family members staged a protest in Pavagada, demanding justice for these three deaths.
In connection with the matter, three staff members who were working on a contract basis were suspended. The District Health and Family Welfare Department has issued an order to dismiss gynecologist Dr. Pooja, nurse Padmavathi, and OT technician Kiran BR with effect from this moment for neglecting duty, negligence, and irresponsibility as per the contract agreement of the District Health Association.
As per the report of ETV Bharat, the order mentioned that signs of the spread of infection were detected in patients who underwent surgery, and it was apparent that there was a lapse in the surgical procedure. This type of infection usually occurs when the operating room is not fumigated and the operating room equipment is not autoclaved. This is responsible for the deaths of three. Those responsible have been dismissed from duty as per the contract agreement of the District Health Association.
