In the heinous case of the rape and subsequent murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, cops have dated up spine-chilling details of what the accused did after committing the crime. The accused has been identified as a civic volunteer not professionally associated with the hospital but as a frequent visitor to the premises of this hospital. After going home, he slept for hours and later tried to destroy evidence by washing the clothes worn by him during the commission of the crime. Despite all these efforts, bloodstains on his shoes identified him with the crime scene, said police.

The body of the victim was found in a seminar hall on the hospital premises this morning. She had gone to the hall to rest after having lunch, and the crime is suspected to have taken place between 3 am and 6 am. An initial autopsy report disclosed the brutality of the assault as serious injuries were noticed to the eyes, mouth, private parts, and other parts of her body, suggesting it was an unusually violent attack.

The Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Goyal, visited the hospital twice since the incident occurred on Monday night and spoke to representatives of junior doctors, who have started protests seeking justice for the victim. The police removed an assistant officer from his post, one of the demands of the protesting medical students, and dismissed two security personnel employed on contract for not carrying out their duties properly.

It has come out, as the investigation unfolds, that authorities are actually looking into a theory which circumstantial evidence may well support: the victim was first murdered and then raped. Sending shock waves throughout the hospital community, it's leading to urgent calls for increased security measures to protect medical professionals.

The murder has outraged health workers, who have subsequently raised demands to safeguard their security through systemic changes. The principal of RG Kar Medical College resigned in response, citing that someone has to take responsibility in view of the incident. Protests by doctors and nursing staff are gaining momentum, and protesters are raising urgent and stringent demands for action against the perpetrator and measures to prevent its recurrence.

Further details into the crime are to come out with an investigation underway, as authorities are facing a lot of pressure to deliver justice at the earliest.
