In a shocking turn of events in Kolkata, West Bengal, body of a second-year postgraduate medical student from the Chest Medicine Department of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was found in the seminar hall. The 31-year-old doctor from Sodepur was discovered by her peers resting half-naked during her duty.

The discovery was made around 11 am by hospital staff, who promptly informed the authorities. The homicide team of the police arrived at the scene, accompanied by Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Initial observations indicated injury marks on the body. The uncertainty surrounding the cause of her death has led to a comprehensive investigation, with the body being sent for a post-mortem examination.

In a preliminary post-mortem report, it was revealed that the postgraduate trainee doctor was sexually assaulted before she was murdered.

Cops began reviewing the hospital's CCTV footage to compile a list of potential suspects. A Bluetooth headphone was collected from the scene as evidence. With the aid of the Bluetooth headphones found at the crime scene, the police have apprehended the primary suspect, Sanjay Roy.

A police official said, "We have arrested one person who is an outsider. His activities are quite suspicious, and he seems to be directly involved in the crime.".

A Twitter user provided further insights into the tragic incident. The post indicated that the doctor had been on a calm duty shift and shared dinner with colleagues. Afterward, she went to the seminar hall around 2 a.m. to rest and study, as there was no proper room for resting after a 36-hour duty. Her body was discovered the next morning, leading to suspicions of rape and murder. The message also highlighted severe security lapses in the hospital, noting that there had been no proper security in the ward for three years. It was alleged that the security personnel often sleep during their shifts and that no nurses visit the wards after 2 am.

This tragic incident has raised serious questions about the safety and working conditions of medical professionals in the hospital. The National General Secretary of the United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) has called for an immediate Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, emphasizing the need for a thorough and impartial investigation.

We demand an immediate CBI investigation and prompt termination of those responsible for this gross negligence . The culprit must face harshest possible penalties, including death sentence, to ensure justice for the doctor and to send a clear message that such atrocities.
