In a tragic incident at St. Joseph's Hospital canteen in Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode, Kerala, a 27-year-old man named Abin Banu died from an electric shock. Abin was visiting his friend, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital when the incident occurred. A case has been registered against the hospital by his relative, Anishmon Antony.

Following the incident, police called in electrical inspectors and scientific experts to investigate. Their initial findings confirmed that the death was due to an electric shock. The police are expected to file a charge sheet after further investigation.

Abin's parents, Binu and Raja, filed a complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, highlighting the hospital staff's negligence regarding safety and management. They also stated that the hospital failed to provide adequate treatment or refer Abin to another facility after the incident.

The accident took place in the hospital canteen, where an exposed wire was reportedly present. Abin’s friend, who was with him at the time, tried to rescue him and also suffered an electric shock. They immediately reported the issue, but hospital officials claimed that the Public Relations Officer (PRO) was unavailable. After the shock, Abin was given basic care, but there was no response to the severity of the situation. He was later transferred to a private medical college hospital in Mukkombu, and eventually to Kozhikode Government Medical College.

Abin’s friends, Sarath and Rony, who were present during the incident, returned to the canteen to check the exposed wire after the accident. By the time they arrived, the wire had been repaired. However, they had already taken photographs of the exposed wire as evidence.

The hospital claims that they provided Abin with all necessary treatment and transferred him to the private medical college with a doctor accompanying him.

If the hospital authority took action to install a proper Earth-Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB), the death would not have happened. ELCB system is mandatory in all buildings.
