In Thiruvananthapuram, a 43-year-old man named Binulal, a native of Kollam, was found dead in his car on Monday evening while parked at SAT Hospital. Binulal had been staying at the hospital for the past week, where his daughter was receiving treatment for an illness. On the day of the incident, after having lunch, he went to the hospital’s parking lot to rest inside his car, keeping the air conditioning on.

Preliminary postmortem reports indicated that his death was caused by poison entering his body. However, the exact nature of the poison and how it entered his system will only be determined after the final autopsy report, according to police statements. The authorities are investigating whether it was a case of accidental poisoning or something more deliberate.

The exact cause of death will be known only after getting the postmortem report.

Police Officer

Binulal, son of Kesavan Nair from Thazhuthala in Kollam, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol before falling asleep in the car. His family became concerned when they could not reach him via phone and began searching for him later that evening. They eventually located him inside his car but were unable to wake him despite repeated knocking on the window. Forced to break the car’s window, they rushed him to the medical college casualty ward, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to the police, the car ignition was off, but the air conditioning was still running when Binulal was found. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the final postmortem report is released. Medical College police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with unnatural deaths, and have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Binulal had recently returned to Kerala after spending several years working in the Gulf. He is survived by his wife, Saranya, aged 37, and two daughters—Devananda, 12, and Siva Ganaa, 7. His elder daughter is a regular patient at SAT Hospital due to ongoing kidney-related health issues.

Binulal was tired after moving around for lab tests in the morning. We never expected this as he was quite healthy.

While the investigation continues, the family is left in mourning, particularly given Binulal’s role as a caretaker during his daughter's treatment at the hospital. The police are looking into all possible angles, including any role that alcohol or environmental factors may have played in his tragic death.

The final autopsy report will be critical in providing closure to the family and determining whether this was a case of accidental poisoning or an unnatural death requiring further legal action.
