A 20-year-old man named Mujahid from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, went to bed as a man and woke up as a woman after being forcibly subjected to gender reassignment surgery. According to Mujahid from Sanjak village, on June 3, he was tricked into having surgery by Omprakash and doctors from the local medical college. This surgery involved the removal of his private parts and a forced sex-change operation.
According to Mujahid, Omprakash had been threatening him for two years, falsely claiming that he had a medical issue that required hospital inspection. On June 3, Mujahid was taken to Begrajpur Medical College in Mansoorpur under the pretense of this medical issue. There, he was administered anesthesia, and the forced surgery was conducted without his consent.
"When I regained consciousness, I was told that I had been changed from a boy to a girl," Mujahid said. He claimed that Omprakash then told him he must live with him, as his family and community would no longer accept him. Omprakash also threatened to shoot Mujahid's father and take over his share of the family land.
The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) workers, led by farmer leader Shyam Pal, protested at the medical college, demanding immediate action against Omprakash and the doctors involved. Pal expressed concerns about potential organ trafficking at the hospital and called for a thorough investigation. He also demanded compensation of at least ₹2 crore for Mujahid, whose life has been severely affected by this traumatic incident.
Mujahid's father filed a police complaint on June 16, which led to Omprakash's arrest. However Shyam Pal demanded stronger measures, criticizing the police for their weak practices. All claims will be thoroughly investigated into, according to senior Muzaffarnagar police official Ramashish Yadav, and those found guilty would face the proper legal repercussions. In addition to arresting Omprakash, the police are investigating the involvement of hospital staff in the case.
The incident has sparked outrage and led to widespread protests organized by the BKU. Protesters have demanded immediate action against Omprakash and the doctors involved in the forced surgery. Shyam Pal highlighted the broader issue of organ trafficking within the hospital, claiming that there is a racket targeting individuals for organ harvesting and gender reassignment surgeries without consent.
This incident has left Mujahid in a state of shock and disbelief. He recounted how Omprakash had been threatening and harassing him for the past two years, ultimately leading to this life-altering operation. Omprakash allegedly told him that no one from his family or community would accept him anymore and that he would have to live with him.
