Manipur's Health Minister, Dr. Sapam Ranjan, issued a strong warning on Tuesday to government doctors engaging in private practice, affirming that those who violate regulations will face legal repercussions.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the 13th foundation day celebration of the College of Nursing, Lamphelpat, which included an oath-taking ceremony for the 2024-2025 first-semester BSc Nursing students at the college’s Multipurpose Hall.
Minister Ranjan emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector, noting ongoing efforts to address systemic issues, particularly the practice of government doctors working in private clinics.
Government doctors are expected to dedicate their efforts to public service within government institutions. Any deviation from this will result in legal action.

Addressing the junior nursing students, Dr. Ranjan encouraged them to seek guidance from their senior peers and assured them that the government is dedicated to supporting the nursing community. He pledged that any grievances from nurses would be promptly addressed, and commended their unwavering dedication, particularly in times of crisis.
The event also included the Director of Health Services, Dr. N. Surbala Devi; the Principal of the College of Nursing, Dr. A. Jamuna Devi; and the Registrar of the Manipur Nursing Council, Dr. Chambow Golmei. It began with a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, honoring her as the founder of modern nursing.
