Almost 700 teachers at Rajasthan's 17 public medical colleges have stated that they will be taking a mass leave of absence starting on July 22, citing the state government's failure to provide coverage for teachers hired prior to August 1, 2024, as stipulated by the Rajasthan Service Rules. The Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES), an independent agency of the state government, appoints teachers to government medical colleges, and they are subject to the service guidelines of the society.
Due to many irregularities in the society's rules, medical teachers have been requesting that the Rajasthan Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules be implemented.
The teachers association appreciated the government's announcement in the state budget that the RajMES will implement the Rajasthan Civil Services Rules, according to Dr. Rajendra Yadav, vice president of the RajMES RMCTA welfare society.
However, Yadav stated that the association then found that it would apply to teachers appointed on or after August 1, 2024.
It has come to our notice that the finance department has decided that the medical teachers appointed in RajMES before 1 August 2024 will be a 'dying cadre' and existing rules of the society will be applicable to them whereas the Rajasthan Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules-2017 will be applicable on teachers appointed on or after 1 August 2024. This will create a huge pay disparity among medical teachers.
