Following the woman's death during post-delivery surgery, officials in Delhi claimed on Wednesday that an FIR had been filed against her family members for allegedly raising a commotion and abusing physicians and staff members.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTBH) in the Shahdara neighborhood of east Delhi, according to the statement.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) said that a group of 50 to 70 armed individuals assaulted the hospital's grounds, injuring staff members and doctors, and damaging property. After giving birth to a kid on Monday night, the hospitalized woman passed away during surgery.
According to the statement, her attendants got angry and attacked doctors early on Tuesday. Following the hospital's late-night complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Surendra Chaudhary, said that a case under section 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 132/3 (5) (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of BNS was registered. According to DCP Chaudhary, the hospital called the GTB Enclave police station early on Tuesday morning to report that a patient's attendants, who had passed away after giving birth, were causing a disturbance. He stated, "The police arrived and immediately brought the situation under control."
According to the DCP, the accused are the woman's husband, Zubair (20), his brother, Mohammad Shoib (24), and his father, Mohammad Naushad (57).
He said that teams had been assembled to apprehend the suspects.
Following the event on Tuesday, senior and junior residents at GTB Hospital and University College of Medical Science (UCMS) went on an indefinite strike.
Strict action against the culprits and strong security oversight in the hospital were sought by the doctors. The doctors protesting said that they would only attend emergency services during the strike.
The strike by junior and senior residents at UCMS and GTBH will continue indefinitely until their demands are met, including the issuance of an institutional FIR copy with legal charges, arrest of all accused, strengthened security with bouncer deployment, restricted attendance at hospital gates, regular police patrolling every 4-5 hours, and installation of panic call buttons in emergency areas.
