Charges of kidnapping a female nurse from a Velachery hospital led Chennai police to detain four males.
A woman's distant relative, named by the police as 27-year-old S Sabapathi from the Ramanathapuram district, was one of the accused. It is said that he planned the abduction following her rejection of his approaches and proposal of marriage. A one-sided love affair was how the police described it. Along with his friends P Hariharan (20), V Rajesh (39), and S Sabarinathan (25), he had devised a plot to abduct the woman from her workplace in a car. Hospital witnesses quickly called Velachery police, who raced to the scene and looked through CCTV footage to identify the car number.
Every toll plaza and vehicle check-post received an alert. The abducted woman was freed when the group was apprehended in the Villupuram district, close to Olakkur.
