A complaint has been brought against a doctor at a private hospital for performing the incorrect operation on a woman in a disturbing case of medical negligence. According to reports, the woman in Rewari, Haryana, had surgery on her left kidney by the doctors after they discovered a kidney stone in her right kidney.

In the police complaint, Ajay Kumar Rathi, of Rathawas village in Gurugram, stated that his wife Guddi Bai was admitted to a private hospital on Bawal Road in the city on February 13, 2024, due to stomach pains.

At the doctor's suggestion, an ultrasound was performed. After that, she was transferred to another private hospital, where doctors found a right kidney stone.

On the next day, the surgery was performed as the doctor had advised. Two days later, she was released. They discovered that the surgery had been done on the left side four days after they had returned home and read the discharge summary.

Ajay returned the next day to the hospital and questioned the doctor about the reason for operating on the left side of the body when the stone was on the right. The doctor first suggested that the report might not be accurate, but he later acknowledged that a mistake had been made. A case has now been opened by the police.

The hospital staff has also been accused by Guddi's family of failing to provide the right medication following the procedure. Two days following the procedure, Guddi was released from the hospital with instructions to return in five to six days for another check-up. It was only after Ajay got home and looked at the discharge summary that he realized Guddi's left kidney had been operated on, not the right one. When he notified the hospital staff, they first suggested that the report might include an error. After that, Ajay took Guddi back to the hospital, where the doctor performed an additional CT, X-ray, and ultrasound but withheld the results.

Ajay Kumar and Dr Ashok had another meeting on February 23. The doctor maintained that the surgery was performed appropriately and that there was no error. Ajay questioned why surgery was performed on the left kidney when the right kidney was the source of the issue. Ajay declined the doctor's offer of a free kidney operation to hide the error. According to Ajay, Dr. Ashok Gupta's negligence threatened his wife's life and seriously distressed his family's emotional state.

Five months have passed since this incident occurred, but according to the family's statement, a complaint was made on Sunday at the City Police Station against the hospital and doctor.

The police claimed to have been in touch with the civil hospital following receipt of the report. The medical board's inquiry verified that the doctor's negligence resulted in the operation on the left kidney rather than the right. Further action is being taken in response to the case that has been filed against the hospital and doctor.
