A 19-year-old medical student jumped to death from the fourth floor of a hotel in the Hazaribag district of Jharkhand on September 13 after being rejected by a girl.
The medical student was a resident of Bankura district in West Bengal. He studied at a medical college in Bengaluru. He met a girl who is studying in Hazaribag town when she went to Purulia district in West Bengal for a one-year academic course.
Sub-divisional police officer, Mahesh Prajapati reported that the girl used to talk to the boy regularly on the phone. The boy desperately wanted to meet the girl. After repeatedly asking to meet the girl, she agreed to meet him at a hotel.
The boy checked into the hotel room. He soon started blackmailing her, forcing her to accept him as a boyfriend. The girl refused and tried to escape, however, failed to do so as the doors were locked. She then started to scream which alerted the hotel staff. They tried to break in, but couldn't do so. The boy also broke the glass and injured the girl.
Unfortunately, the boy then jumped out the window. He died on the spot. It is suspected that he jumped off fearing that he may be handed over to the police. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the investigation is underway.
The girl was admitted to the Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital. She is currently out of danger.
