Amar Hospital in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai is under the scanner following the death of a 25-year-old woman from Pune who succumbed to an abortion on July 8.

The fetus also could not be saved. This led to an inquiry into the practice of the hospital. Already in March, the Panvel City Municipal Corporation had restricted the hospital to the Out Patient Department and disallowed them from admitting any patient.

The matter came to light on Monday following the arrest of the 37-year-old woman's partner, Gajendra Dagadkhaire. He, along with his accomplice Ravikant Gaikwad, 41, allegedly dumped the woman's body, the foetus, and her two children aged two and five in Pune's Indrayani river on the night of July 9. The Talegaon MIDC police said that the woman was four months pregnant and had been staying with her children after separating from her husband.

Amar Hospital has not responded to any queries regarding the incident. This is not the first such incident at this hospital; in the year 2021, a case of the same kind arose, and questions are being raised again regarding the running style and safety measures of this hospital.

The incident has really sparked heated debate in many media stations on the need to implement medical regulations and hospital responsibilities for ensuring the safety of the patients.

The incident has really sparked heated debate in many media stations on the need to implement medical regulations and hospital responsibilities for ensuring the safety of the patients. Investigation has ensued to establish what caused this tragedy and whether the hospital is accountable for any type of negligence.

This incident raises the dire need for keeping a strict vigil on medical facilities in terms of negligence and that the best possible care is provided to the patients. The community is joined by medical professionals asking for a proper probe for justice to be done and to stop such tragedies from occurring again.

The case has also thrown up larger questions on the healthcare system and raised demands for systemic reforms. Authorities are called upon to address, at the earliest, Insufficiency in regulations and ensure a medical facility adheres to the highest standards of care. It is a shocking pointer that slackness in medical regulation pitfalls is dangerous and that the welfare of a patient has to be protected at all costs.
