New Delhi: Several states face difficulty in giving incentive marks to in-service candidates due to changes in the NEET PG exam pattern. This year. The National Medical Council has permitted the National Board of Examination and Medical Sciences (NBMS) to allow the states. To create state-specific ranks only for the consumption of the state quota seats for the NEET PG counselling 2024

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) made this decision based on the directions given by the Union Health Ministry to prevent any further delays in NEET PG counselling.

Previously, states added incentive marks to the score provided by NBE to create a state-specific rank. However, they faced a hurdle in providing such incentivization to in-service candidates because of the changes in the exam pattern by NBEMS this year.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance test for postgraduates (NEET PG) counselling will begin by November 11 tentatively, according to an announcement from the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) on social media. The MCC is expected to release the detailed NEET PG 2024 counselling schedule shortly, which will be available on the official website, mcc.nic.in.

NEET PG Counselling Delay

NEET PG result was released on August 23 and candidates who cleared NEET PG exam are getting anxious now.

A petition filed by 19 PG aspirants calls for releasing question papers, answer keys, and raw scores to ensure transparency and fairness. The petitioners contend that these measures are essential following last-minute changes to the NEET PG 2024 exam pattern, made only three days before the entrance test. They have also raised concerns about the normalization process and have urged the National Board of Examinations on October 8, 2024, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) appealed to Union Health Minister JP Nadda to expedite the 2024 counselling process without further delays.

The next Supreme Court hearing for the NEET PG case is yet to be scheduled.

India currently offers 73,111 postgraduate medical seats, with the PG counselling process crucial for allocating these positions across Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), Diplomate of National Board (DNB), and postgraduate diploma programs under the All-India Quota (AIQ). The counselling is expected to be conducted in four phases: round 1, round 2, round 3, and the AIQ stray vacancy round.
