On Monday, three nurses were suspended for allegedly making reels inside the operation theater of a government hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and sharing them on social media.
Facility Deputy Superintendent Dr. Hemant Sharma said that on February 23, the services of Pushpa Sahu, Tripti Dasar, and Tej Kumari, who were daily wage staff nurses at Dau Kalyan Singh PG Institute and Research Centre Raipur, were terminated after a complaint was received.
Reels shot by three nurses inside the operation theater of the burn and plastic surgery unit came to the attention of the Assistant Nursing Superintendent, following which higher authorities were informed on February 5.
Dr. Hemant added that clicking pictures and making reels inside operation theaters is against the rules. The nurses are also seen wearing shoes and sandals that they generally wear outside the OT. Nurses allegedly misbehaved with the ward in-charge when she objected to their act.
Among those 2 reels shared by the hospital management, one reel shows the three nurses wearing green dresses used in operation theaters. They are seen dancing by holding surgical items on songs like ‘first rahu mai dar badar’ and ‘why this kolaveri di’.
A few days ago, 38 junior doctors faced action from medical college authorities after their on-campus reels went viral and people accused them of neglecting their duties. In that matter, Karnataka's Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) management cracked down on junior doctors recording reels on campus and extended housemanship (practical training).
In recent years, reels captured by health professionals have gone viral often. However, these reels have polarized public opinion.
