Krishna Thankappan, from Neyyattinkara, lost her life after being administered the wrong injection by the doctor at Neyyattinkara General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association commented on the matter and said that the injection administered was a regular one and mentioned that the patient might have developed an anaphylaxis reaction, which cannot be considered medical negligence by the doctor.

Krishna was suffering from a kidney problem and was seeking treatment at the Thaikkad Hospital, but later, due to the detection of a kidney stone during a scan, she was moved to the surgical department of Neyyattinkara General Hospital on July 15th. That morning, she was administered an injection by Dr. Vinu, after which her condition started deteriorating. Later, the hospital authorities shifted Krishna to the government medical college in an ambulance. After this, she reportedly fell unconscious and remained in an unconscious state for 5 days before passing away on Sunday morning.

According to the relatives, Krishna’s condition was not serious when she was brought to the hospital. The deceased had asthma and allergy issues, and the doctor administered the wrong injection at Neyyattinkara General Hospital in Neyyattinkara, after which her health began to worsen, and she eventually passed away.

However, according to some reports, the doctor said that he did not give the wrong injection. The deceased brother countered it by saying that he had a recording of the confession from the doctor.

Later, the relatives filed a complaint with the Kattakkada Police against the doctor. In the evening, a protest march was carried out by the relatives, which ended after an additional district magistrate promised to take action against the doctor for medical negligence.

The husband of the deceased, Sarath, has also brought this matter to the attention of the Chief Minister and Health Minister.

The doctor was booked under Section 125 of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita, which refers to an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others.

Shashi Tharoor, MP of Thiruvananthapuram, offered his condolences and asked for a detailed probe into the medical negligence reported.
