A controversy sparked when a pre-wedding photoshoot in an operation theater at a hospital in Karnataka's Chitradurga went viral.
Dr. Abhishek, who is a contract-based physician at the district hospital in the Bharamasagar area of Chitradurga, had organized his pre-wedding photoshoot inside an operation theater of a government-run hospital.
In the pre-wedding shoot, Dr. Abhishek can be seen 'performing' surgery on a patient while his partner assists him. However, the theme of the pre-wedding photo shoot was medical procedures, with the end of the video showing the patient sitting up post-operation. The video also shows several people with cameras and lights present in the operation theater to shoot the pre-wedding video. In this video, the laughter of the cameraperson and technician can be heard as they document the scene.
After the video went viral on social media, sparking a row, the Health Minister of Karnataka, Dinesh Gundu Rao, directed the dismissal of Dr. Abhishek from the service.
The Health Minister of Karnataka, Dinesh Gundu Rao, wrote in his post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that a doctor who conducted a pre-wedding shoot in the operation theater of Bharamasagar Government Hospital of Chitradurga has been dismissed from service. Government hospitals exist for the health care of people and not for personal work. I cannot admit such indiscipline from doctors.
Further, Dinesh Rao added that all contract employees, including doctors and staff doing duties in the health department, should do their duties as per the government service rules. I have already ordered the concerned doctors and all the staff to be careful so that such abuses do not happen in government hospitals. Everyone should focus on performing their duty, knowing that the facilities provided by the government to the government hospitals are for the health care of the common people.
