Tension gripped at District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak, Odisha, after a pregnant woman died allegedly due to medical negligence last night.
The deceased has been identified as a 28-year-old woman, Manjulata Ghadei, who was a resident of Biridi, which comes under Agarpada police limits in the district.
According to the family members of the deceased, Manjulata (28), was rushed to the Agarpada Community Health Centre (CHC) after she complained of labor pain and was later shifted to the DHH at around 11.30 p.m.
Her family members alleged that after arriving at the DHH, Manjulata was administered an injection and was left suffering in pain till 2 a.m. Though her husband was constantly seeking medical attention from the doctors, they allegedly did not pay any attention to the patient.
Unfortunately, the woman breathed her last at around 2.30 a.m. Following her death, her family members became furious and created a ruckus at the state-run hospital.
After getting the information, police arrived at the scene and conciliated the family members.
The police said that a probe has been launched into the matter and that necessary actions will be taken.
In April 2023, there was a similar incident when the Karnataka police filed a case against the doctors at the Bangarapet government hospital in Kolar district. The family alleged that the doctor’s negligence had led to the death of a pregnant woman. In that case, the family emphasized that the doctors gave her an injection and later performed a cesarean on her. She suffered breathing problems after the injection, and her condition worsened.
