Day by day the quality and safety of the foods is worsening. In recent news, a frozen dead rat was found in an edible ice block raising questions concerning the quality of foods.
According to the officials, a dead rat was found frozen in an edible ice block, which was reportedly sourced from an ice manufacturing factory in Pune's Junnar. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has initiated an investigation into this issue.
This awful finding was made by a wholesale and retail ice vendor. He supplies the bulk ice blocks to restaurants, hotels, factories, and even street vendors selling various chilled drinks like milkshakes, fruit or dry fruit juices, sugarcane juice, ice golas, and desserts like faloodas that are enjoyed by thousands of people every day.
The vendor noticed the dead rodent sticking out of its frozen rat hole from the ice block which was reportedly sourced from a Junnar unit. The vendor and other people took pictures and videos of the incident which later went viral over social media. The incident created outrage among the citizens on social media.
Many people have heightened accusations against the Pune district officials, state food and drug administration, and other concerned agencies for the grave failure, particularly at the height of summer, when ice and ice-based foods are in demand. Following the incident, the enraged locals demanded that the relevant agencies should immediately execute raids and checks to estimate whether health and hygiene parameters were being followed or not.
Joint commissioner of FDA Arjun Bhujpal said that he has asked the assistant commissioner of the respective area to probe the incident. The assistant commissioner and his team would execute the inquiry and submit a report to him. He also said that the team would visit the ice factory from where the ice was bought by the vendor. An inspection of the ice manufacturing units and distributors would be executed in the entire Pune district.
Recently, condoms, gutka, stones, and tobacco were found in samosas that served at an automobile company’s canteen in the twin City of Pimpri Chinchwad. Pune police registered a case against five people who were linked to an external private food caterer and apprehended one.
