With the promise of a position as a neurologist at a private hospital in Dubai, a 58-year-old doctor from a reputable private hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu is said to have been conned out of Rs 1,15,684.
In line with a press release issued by the department of cybercrime, the doctor received a call promising him a position as a neurologist at a private hospital in Dubai. The caller then conducted a Skype interview and told the doctor that he had been chosen for the position. He also wanted payment for a number of other costs, such as registration and processing fees.
In light of this, the doctor moved Rs 1,15,684 to many bank accounts between April 11 and April 20. Later, the caller refused to give in and turned off his phone when he demanded his money back. The doctor reported the con to the cybercrime department and a case was opened after he realized he had been duped. Authorities have issued a warning to the public to be wary of fraudulent promises made on social media sites like Telegram, WhatsApp, and others.
