The two hospital staff have been identified as Anil Mulaje (52) and Tushar Kulkarni (31), who were living in New Panvel.

They were crossing the railway track from the Khanda Colony side to New Panvel. Mulaje worked at the MGM Hospital and was originally from Latur. Kulkarni worked in another hospital and was from Satara. Kulkarni's family stays at their native place.

They avoided using the foot over-bridge and were suspected to have slipped while crossing the tracks during the previous night.

The police did not find any major injuries on their bodies.

The two individuals were discovered in a pit filled with rainwater beside the tracks. Their bodies were taken to the sub-district hospital for post-mortem examination.

There is no chance of being hit by the running train while crossing the tracks as they had not sustained grievous injuries. It was raining during the night. We found their identity cards in the bags and reached out to their family members. An accidental death case has been registered and an investigation has been launched.
