A trainee obstetrician at Ranee's Government Memorial Hospital (RGMH) died on Tuesday after giving birth to twins through a caesarian section.
The deceased was R. Anjutha, a 26-year-old obstetrician from Karambakkudi in Pudukkottai district. Anjutha holds an MD in obstetrics and gynecology and also worked as an assistant professor of gynecology at Pudukkottai Government Medical College and her husband Karthik works as a dentist in Bengaluru.
On Tuesday, she developed labor pain after which she was rushed to Ranee’s Government Memorial Hospital. As per the officials, Anjutha experienced breathing complications and the medical team consisting of colleagues conducted an immediate cesarean section. After delivering twin boys Anjutha died of bleeding. The twin babies also suffered breathing difficulties; they were referred to a private hospital in Tiruchy where they were kept in an incubator.
A medical officer said that initially, the family of Anjutha planned to admit her to a private hospital in Tiruchy, but as her condition worsened and she developed a bout of fits, they rushed her to Ranee's hospital, they tried their best to save her, but in vain.
S. Sripriya Thenmozhi, the Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services said that upon arrival at the hospital, the doctors promptly attended to her. Unfortunately, the patient had suffered from premature separation of the placenta with twin pregnancy and she passed away due to postpartum hemorrhage.
