The controversy began when two patients, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), died after undergoing angioplasty at the hospital. An inquiry revealed that the procedure was unnecessary, and the families of the deceased patients were not informed or consulted. The Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) issued notices to the hospital and the doctors involved, demanding an explanation regarding alleged negligence in treatment.

We need a cardiologist's help to understand medical jargon and the technicalities that led to these fatalities. We have written to the state govt seeking the assistance of an expert cardiologist in the case.

Further investigation revealed that Khyati Hospital was previously registered under the Gujarat Nursing Homes Registration Act but failed to seek registration under the Clinical Establishments Act when expanding operations in 2022.

The hospital has been asked to provide a satisfactory response to the show-cause notice issued by the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) at Sola Civil Hospital.

The GMC has also launched an investigation into the hospital's previous lapses, which came to light after the recent deaths. One of the doctors involved in the incident was arrested by the city police, while another doctor is reported to be linked to hospitals in Rajkot and Surat, indicating a wider controversy.
