A female junior resident doctor at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, was hit by a rod during a clash between two groups and suffered a head injury.

Two groups of people arrived with two injured individuals in the casualty ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital. While the injured were being treated, those groups of people had verbal arguments, which led to physical violence. In the chaos, a female resident doctor got hit on the head by a rod and was admitted for treatment.

The other resident doctors, following the incident in the hospital, protested and demanded action against the people who caused the clash and injured the junior resident, Dr. Prithvi Bhoge. Dr. Suresh Harbade, medical superintendent, and Dr. Shivaji Shukre, dean of the hospital, assured that they would file a case against the people who were involved in the clash and also strengthen the security of the hospital by setting up alarm systems within the hospital to avoid similar situations. Only after their assurance did the resident doctors stop the protest and continue their work.

The hospital suspended four officials of the Maharashtra Security Force as they didn’t interfere in the clash between the two groups in the hospital. The dean of the hospital told the media that he would take appropriate action against the culprits involved in the incident.

Supriya Sule, MP of the Nationalist Congress Party, visited the injured medical resident, Dr. Prithvi Bhoge, and then interacted with the hospital administration to understand the situation.

She further said that there was a serious law and order problem in the state as the goons dared to enter the government hospital and hit the resident doctor there. She also said that the crime rate has increased in the state, and this incident occurred due to the failure of the state home department, which has 200 MLAs. The Home Minister should answer the reason for the increasing crime rate.
