Tensions were raised in Medinipur, West Bengal, after attackers posed as patients and attacked a doctor and his wife with a hammer on Tuesday evening, fleeing the scene thereafter. The attackers quickly departed, leaving behind a motorcycle.
As per local police, the deceased were identified as Sheikh Alauddin (55) and Hira Bibi (47). Police launched an investigation into the double homicide after seizing an abandoned motorcycle.
The shocking incident happened in the evening at around 6:30 p.m. near the new Debra police station. The police have prime suspicion, suggesting a possible motive related to financial matters.
Eyewitnesses described seeing two individuals, disguised as patients, entering the couple's home. One of the witnesses, the deceased doctor's nephew, Sheikh Azhar, revealed that the attackers hastily carried out the attack before fleeing the scene.
Sheikh Shamim, another eyewitness, described encountering a suspicious individual outside the victims' residence, claiming to be there for a medical appointment. Sheikh Shamim tried to intervene. Despite Shamim's intervention, the suspects hastily departed, leaving behind a motorcycle.
As vital evidence, the police have seized the abandoned motorcycle. Now, the police are actively pursuing leads to arrest the culprits.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhritiman Sarkar confirmed the ongoing investigation. But SP refrained from speculating further on the motive behind the heinous crime. Also, police authorities have urged that if anyone has information related to the case, they should come forward and assist in the investigation. Further investigation is underway.
