Although the warning is convenient, doctors advise that snoozing is not suitable for your health. This daily activity is interfering with your sleep and causing various health problems due to the jolts.
According to Dr. SP Rai, Consultant, Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, snoozing your alarm causes sleep fragmentation. As a result, it is inertia sleep rather than productive sleep.
A sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes and is repeated 4-6 times per night. "We disrupt REM sleep (dream sleep), a therapeutic sleep state when we snooze. Not only are those 5 to 10 minutes of shut-eye sufficient for restorative sleep, but interruptions can raise our heart rate and blood pressure," He continued.
So, how can one stop relying on their alarm clock to wake them up every morning? "Replace snoozing with healthier habits. "For example, try to go to bed and wake up at the same time," Dr. Rai advised, adding that people should avoid caffeine and "drink a large amount of fluid just before bed."
He also mentioned that late-night phone browsing causes sleep disruption. "Unplug from the internet and social media one hour before going to bed. Set your alarm to wake you up in real time. You can relocate your alarm clock throughout the room. You will not feel more rested if you continue to snooze your alarm clock," Dr. Rai explained.
