A woman allegedly assaulted a doctor for giving a wrong post-mortem report of her daughter. The entire situation happened at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Paralakhemundi, Gajapati district of Odisha. The police filed a case against the accused woman.
According to the sources, a woman named Sugyani Gamanga native of Allad in Kashinagar block posed herself as a patient, entered the OPD of the district headquarters hospital, and started attacking Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Mishra, who performed the post-mortem on Sugyani's daughter. She accused the doctor of giving the wrong post-mortem report that her daughter had committed suicide.
The deceased girl Soudamini Raita, is a class IX student, studying at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Paralakhemundi. She was found dead on her hostel campus by hanging herself on February 20, 2023. The school authorities say that the girl had committed suicide. However, her family members alleged that it was a planned murder. The Paralakhemundi Police conducted the investigation initially. The family members of the deceased were resentful & not satisfied with the investigation by the police. The case has now been transferred to the crime branch. Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Mishra conducted the post-mortem and disclosed that the girl had killed herself.
The deceased mother Sugyani says that she got infuriated because the doctor had not mentioned the marks found on her daughter’s body. She had asked the doctor what he would lose if her daughter got justice.
Dr. Mishra says he was attending to patients in his chamber when the woman came, flung filthy language, and roughed up him.
The doctor filed a complaint, and then the Parlakhemundi police reached the place and started an inquiry into the incident.
PK Patra, chief district medical officer, Gajapati said that an FIR has been lodged against the woman. Paralakhemundi IIC Prashanth Bhupati said that we have registered a case against the woman for assaulting a public servant after the doctor lodged an FIR.
