Stevia, commonly known as Candy Leaf, has long been recognized for its natural sweetening properties. However, a recent study reveals its potential extends far beyond that. Researchers at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) in Guwahati discovered Stevia's therapeutic properties can combat diseases like endocrine, metabolic, immune, and cardiovascular issues.

Led by Dr. Asis Bala, Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, and Ms. Piyali Devroy, the team employed a multimodal strategy integrating network pharmacology with in vitro and in vivo techniques. Their findings showed Stevia inhibits a crucial cellular signaling route connected to inflammatory, autoimmune, endocrine, and cardiovascular illnesses.

Stevia suppresses Protein Kinase C (PKC) phosphorylation, altering downstream pathways that cause inflammation – a significant contributor to endocrine metabolic and cardiovascular issues. This breakthrough research published in the journal "Food Bioscience" highlights Stevia's promise in addressing various health concerns.
