A doctor belonging to Bengaluru, Dr. Sankaran, saved the life of a woman passenger experiencing seizures on an Air India flight from Delhi to Toronto. It was fortunate for the passenger that the flight had not yet taken off, because of which sudden medical assistance was provided to the passenger.
Dr. Sankaran was on the flight, and he said, "On my way from Toronto to Delhi by Air India, I, along with a radiologist from Toronto, Dr. Satheesh Krishna, were called to attend to a middle-aged lady who had seizures and disorientation."
As the flight had not yet taken off and was delayed by an hour, the passenger was provided with proper medical support, and she was put under the care of doctors from Medanta Medical Centre at the airport, said Dr. Sankaran. Her vitals were stable, he added.
Dr. Sankaran made a post on Twitter where he appreciated the staff, saying, "The Air India staff were very cooperative and professional." He also said thanks to the security concerns, as the whole aircraft had to go through security screening and clearance, because of which the flight was delayed by an hour.
Air India responded to the Twitter post of Dr. Sankaran through a thank-you note that said, "Dear Mr. Sankaran, we honour you for the part you played! Thank you. It always feels blessed to have a person like you among us who never hesitates to extend their helping hands to others. Thank you for noticing our staff and commitment, and we will surely pass on your appreciation.
Dr. Sankaran also mentioned that he has past experience providing instant medical help for passengers who require it. Dr. Sankaran shared one of his past cases in which he gave instant care to an IAF officer experiencing a heart attack during his first flight from Delhi to Bengaluru. The officer was taken immediately to the command hospital air force, and he was provided with proper treatment for acute MI (myocardial infarction for heart attack). The chief of the Air Force sent Dr. Sankaran a thank-you letter for treating the IAF officer. Along with the chief of the air force, the wife and daughter of an IAF officer also sent a letter of thanks. Dr. Sankaran felt overwhelmed; he mentioned, "For a young doctor who had just begun his career, the letters meant a lot."
