In a heartwarming instance of organ donation, a 25-year-old doctor from Umarga, Solapur, Maharashtra, was declared brain dead following a tragic road accident. His family made the noble decision to donate his organs, which went on to save the lives of three patients in Maharashtra, offering a second chance at life.
The accident occurred on September 13, when the doctor, while riding a bike with his brother, was hit by a Karnataka State Transport bus. Both were rushed to the hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the doctor’s condition deteriorated. After several days of critical care, he was declared brain dead on September 17. Following consultations with doctors, the family made the courageous choice to donate his organs. On September 18, the organs were transported to Pune, marking a journey of hope for several individuals.

The liver was given to a 38-year-old man from Chakan, while the cornea was deposited in an eye bank in Solapur, ensuring that even more lives could benefit from the donation in the future.
This act of selflessness marked the 50th deceased organ donation from Pune’s Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC). With increasing awareness around organ donation, ZTCC has been instrumental in facilitating such donations across Maharashtra, helping bridge the gap between organ demand and availability.
