Pune: An incident happened at the Wakad police station, where a 30-year-old man who is a technician by profession in a company filed a report at the station.
As per the reports, a doctor allegedly tricked his patient out of 75,000 rupees, to which a 30-year-old man who is a technician by profession in a based company has filed a complaint at the Wakad police station.
The police stated that the complainant sought treatment at a private hospital in September 2022 and was subsequently hospitalized. The patient said that they had insurance, but the doctor helped them get a loan instead. Then, when the bill came, the doctor said that their insurance claim wasn't approved. Which was a completely unfair situation for the patient.
The insurance company promptly transferred Rs. 63,000 to the doctor's bank account following the claim. As the insurance company had already paid the amount, the complainant, which is the patient, requested that the doctor repay the loan. The doctor made payment in three installments but denied paying the rest of the amount to the patient. When the person who filed the complaint came to the doctor to ask for the remaining amount, the doctor actually physically attacked and verbally abused the patient. The respected authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigations have been going on.
Incidents like these in India have now become very common where doctors fool or trick their patients either by asking for more money, charging them high fees, or tricking them for the insurance scam, as happened here. There are many schemes from the government, such as Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and Universal Health Insurance Scheme where they give treatment to patients in very minimal amounts, but some of the doctors keep patients in the dark so as to charge high amounts from them, and as patients are not aware of the truth, it becomes unfair to the patients.
