Women online have been discussing "ozempic babies" (unexpected pregnancies) while taking weight loss medications, regardless of their history of fertility difficulties.

Some of them report experiencing severe symptoms such as intense sudden appetite and rapid weight gain after abruptly discontinuing these drugs in order to protect their baby's health.

However, Hunger and weight gain are usual during pregnancy, These women say that the severity of their indications is not like those of past pregnancies. It is uncertain if pregnancy worsens due to discontinuation of weight loss medication. But fertility and bariatric experts say changes in hormonal linked with pregnancy could clarify the fierce effects.

Drug manufacturers suggest that women have to quit these weight loss medications two months earlier before planning a pregnancy. When a non-pregnant person discontinues these medications, doctors advise them to gradually withdraw them in order to prevent negative effects; however, women who discover they are pregnant must discontinue immediately.

Experts advise women to consult their doctors right away, especially if they’re taking medications like Ozempic to treat diabetes.

When Ozempic and pregnancy symptoms collide

Amanda Brierley, 42, initiated taking semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic) last year to treat her insulin resistance caused by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Within a month, her menstrual period returned “like clockwork” later than many years of dysregulation. Then nine months later, Brierley observed that she was pregnant. This was startling news given that doctors had warned her she wouldn't be able to conceive on her own after her previous high-risk pregnancy over two decades ago.

Medications like Ozempic, Mounjaro, WeGovy, and Zepbound seem to to boost fertility due to the weight loss they stimulate correct hormonal imbalances triggered by obesity and metabolic disorders; some of them may also decrease the potency of birth control pills, increasing the probability of pregnancy.

Brierley discontinued taking semaglutide right away, as per recommendations based on animal studies that Discovered, it could cause miscarriage and birth defects if taken while pregnant. After a week, she was owned with a Voracious hunger, “I was a human garbage can and I didn’t want sweets or anything. I wished for real food, like meats, cheese, and other rich protein, which was entirely dissimilar from my first pregnancy. I was like a Neanderthal. I couldn’t stop. It was crazy.”

So it’s possible that withdrawal of these drugs cold turkey, as opposed to weaning off of them, plus pregnancy, may be the strengthening indications that both experiences share.
